bio

Jean-Sébastien Monzani is a Swiss and French self-taught artist born in 1975. He works as freelance photographer, graphic-designer, illustrator and video-artist (he has a PHD of Computer Graphics from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology).

Emotion, elegance, simplicity, a strong sense of composition and colour are key elements in his work. His artistic approach often conveys a story, although some elements remain mysterious and are left to the viewer’s interpretation - sometimes evoking something uncanny. Therefore, it is not surprising to hear Jean-Sébastien citing magic realism in literature as a major source of inspiration (with authors such as Haruki Murakami, Jorge Luis Borges or Dino Buzzati) - as well as visual poetry in performance arts. His recent works also exhibit an interest in the human body and its relationship with its environment.

When referring to composition, he likes to cite Antoine de Saint-Exupéry: Perfection in design is not achieved when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing more to remove.
